We're off!

Sunday 3 October 2010

Taxi to Paisley Gilmour Street in the pouring rain. Taxi from Central station to Queen Street station in the pouring rain.

No problem changing trains in Edinburgh.

Picnic on the train was definitely celebratory! Again no problem getting the bus from Newcastle station to the ferry terminal in North Shields. We even had time to spend a few minutes with John's mum and Aunty Jane in the terminal building. The ferry was huge and very comfortable. Slight problem was the stairs and Donnie and Cath's steamer trunks! Fortunately a kind steward took pity on them and took them in a lift. The "no food and drink" rule appeared to be enforced on an ad hoc basis. We did see some young folk being checked on a random basis. Presumably they did not think people as old as us would flaunt rules!

One comment we would make is that DFDS could learn from Calmac as far as the catering is concerned. Portions were generous and the chips were lovely so we didn't starve. But...Hey... Beds were comfy and shower was just brill.

  1. Good to see you are getting along well 'steamer trunk' included. A no food and drink rule? What planet are they on?
